What is processed, why and for how long
Using the calculators and My Garage
The calculators run in your browser. The values you type are not sent to this site. My Garage, your unit choice (US or metric) and your Build Sheet paper size are saved in your browser’s local storage only because you ask for it, and they stay on your device until you delete them (for example by clearing your browser’s site data or deleting a build). Exported garage files are created on your device and are yours.
Contact form and email
When you write to us, we receive your email address, your message, the topic you chose and, if you give it, your name. We use them only to answer you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in replying to the people who contact us (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) and, where your message is a request about your rights, our legal obligation. Messages are kept while the conversation is useful and deleted within 12 months after the last reply, unless we need to keep them longer to meet a legal obligation.
To stop automated spam, the form’s server script keeps a one-way, salted fingerprint of the sending IP address (never the address itself) for at most one hour, and a daily count of messages without any personal data.
Server logs
Like any website, our hosting provider records technical data for every request (IP address, date and time, page requested, browser type) to keep the service running and secure. These logs are handled by the host under its own retention rules and are not used to identify visitors.
Advertising
Gear Toolbox may show advertising served by Google (Google AdSense) to pay for the site. When it does, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar identifiers to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure them and, where you allow it, personalize them. Google acts as an independent controller for that processing; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services and how Google uses cookies in advertising.
Consent is collected with Google’s certified consent management platform: visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked before any non-essential cookie is set, and visitors in US states with privacy laws can opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising through the message the platform shows. You can change your choice at any time from the cookie page. Until advertising is switched on, this site sets no advertising cookies at all.
Who receives data
- Our hosting provider (Hostinger), which stores the site and processes the contact form on our behalf as a processor.
- Our email provider, which delivers the messages sent through the form.
- Google, for advertising, as described above.
We do not sell personal information for money. Some data may be processed outside the EU (for example by Google in the United States); such transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
In the EU, the UK and Switzerland
You can ask for access to your data, its correction or deletion, the restriction of its processing, a copy in a portable format, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest. Write to info@geartoolbox.com. You may also complain to a data protection authority: in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es); in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
In the United States
Depending on the state where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or Utah), you may have the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to access it, correct it and delete it, and to opt out of its sale, of its sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising and of targeted advertising. California residents have these rights under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA. To use them, use the opt-out message shown by the consent platform or write to info@geartoolbox.com; we will not treat you differently for doing so. You may use an authorized agent, and we may need to verify your request.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
If this notice changes, the new version is published on this page with its date.
